Edinburgh 2006 Features
No Smoking is No Joke for Jack Carter
Jack Lord, playing Jack Carter in our Edinburgh production of Get Carter said to me in re-rehearsals that not being able to smoke onstage was like ‘amputating’ a part of his performance. Festival goers should bear in mind this show has already toured Scotland, prior to the introduction of the onstage smoking ban in March, and so audiences have already experienced the show with its characters lighting up throughout. The ban on an accurate representation of smoking onstage isn’t the joke some of the Scottish newspapers and pundits have implied it is.
Tartan Ribbon 2006
And so here we are, ears still ringing, after another stupendously wonderful Tartan Ribbon Comedy Benefit 2006. The Pleasance has been supporting Waverley Care - supporting people living in Scotland with HIV since 1992, and last year we managed to make more money than ever before!
Poetry at the Dome
Edinburgh Food Festival at the Pleasance Dome has a Poet in Residence, Leon Conrad. Each day of the festival he can be found in the Dome composing poetry and setting our daily poetry competition. Read his daily musing and compositions online here and find out the results of our daily competitions.
Momma Cherri's Soul Food Shack
Momma Cherri's restaurant shot to fame when it was featured in 2005 on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. The star was undoubtedly Momma Cherri herself, Charita Jones. Throughout the Festival you can find Momma's Soul Food Shack in the Pleasance Dome. After midnight we'll have live jazz and soul music, free for all to enjoy.
Jazz and Soul at the Dome
Great food and good music are inseparable bedfellows. Every night of the fest, after midnight, we'll crank up the volume and see some fine live music on the Dome stage, with the best DJs in the land.
