Festival Technical Staff
Festival Technical Staff - Job Description
Production Manager (Matt Britten), Assistant Production Manager (Marec Joyce),
Head of Lighting (Dom Knight), Head of Sound (Tom Lishman)
21 Venue Managers, 80 Crew
1. Our venues range from 50 seat to 760 seat temporary theatres.
2. There are many styles from cabaret, thrust and traditional proscenium arch all hosting productions requiring varying levels of technical support.
3. Each venue is run by a Venue Manager and two to five crew depending on the size and complexity of the space.
4. The Venue Manager is responsible for the day to day running of the venue and the organisation of their crew to ensure that all shows start and finish on time, that their venue is clean, tidy, safe, run professionally and maintains all relevant building control and fire safety rules.
5. The companies are responsible for making sure that their shows are sufficiently ‘teched’ within their allotted tech rehearsal time. The venue Manager is there to facilitate this.
6. There must be one venue tech inside for each show (they may be operating sound or lighting) and one crew member outside the venue whilst the show is on. This is to talk to latecomers and assist customers and to be on the end of a two way radio in the event of an emergency. For the larger venues members of FOH staff are also on duty outside.
7. Each venue can host up to 9 productions a day every day. All shows have a tight turnaround time wherein the auditorium must be cleared and cleaned, the previous show de-rigged, the incoming show installed, the audience seated and the show to open on time. This could be as little as 15 minutes.
8. Venue Managers and crew should be aware that there is a support network there for them. General Manager, Production Manager, Assistant Production Manager, Head of Sound, Head of Lighting and Duty Managers are all around and relevant information along with any day to day issues that arise must be passed on.
