I grew up in The Netherlands and in my twenties emigrated to New Zealand where I sent up a few gallery/ studio's went to art school and had lots of other adventures.
After 12 years in NZ I met my husband in Auckland and he convinced me I should come and with him to Australia. So over 'the ditch' we went. I love the sunny warm weather in Sydney!
We have been in the UK for one year and since then I have been busy making contacts in the European Art world.
So far I have exhibited at the Inspired Art fair 2005 in London, 'The Other Side Of The Moon' exhibition in Florence, Italy and the Ealing Open Art Exhibition, London.
Further exhibitions planned for this year include The Questors Theatre, Ealing, The Pleasant Theatre, Caledonian Rd both in London and the Raw Art Festival in Valencia, Spain.
I am mostly self taught although I did go to the School of Visual Arts in Nelson, NZ where I developped my current style.
My bright and colourful original oil paintings are inspired by early history, symbolism and the stories of mythologies and legends
I paint in series which means I choose a subject and study it for a while, then make notes and drawings before I start painting. Any excuse for a trip abroad to research my subject is also very exciting!
I am currently painting about The Vikings and the stories of their mythology. These paintings are not yet on my website as I haven't finished the series. It takes me about a year to finish each series.
Because pictures say a 1000 words you can look at my work on my website at www.lighthouse-art.co.uk or email me on karin@lighthouse-art.co.uk
greetings Karin
