Huh? (working title)

Marinda Botha

Tuesday 29 April 4pm

Huh?(working title) is a comic-tragic solo show currently being devised by Marinda Botha using puppetry, clowning and visual theatre to explore the world of a sufferer of Alzheimer’s disease.

A work-in-progress showing will be held by the artist on 29 April 2008 for audience feedback.

The inspiration for this piece springs from the writer’s experience of caring for her grandmother who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. We experience the joys of finding yourself anew each day, the terror of losing your way in a foreign country and the universal familiarity of this condition within all of us.

Growing up in South Africa and then living in London for the past seven years, Marinda responds in this play to these experiences in her life. It is also a tribute to anyone touched by the disease.

Marinda Botha is a South African born performer and puppeteer with 10 years professional experience. She trained as a classical actress but also did an apprenticeship under a puppet master in South Africa for three years. She learnt the art of marionette manipulation and worked in their State Theatre throughout her training. Since arriving in the UK in 2001, she has worked on numerous feature-, short film and theatre projects. She is currently living in London. Huh? is her first solo work.
