The Institute

Brendan Dodds and David Puckridge

Thursday 29 October - Sunday 1 November

Asphodel™ - extending the life of you and your family. Side effects may include nausea, lower back pain, death, lust for human flesh, mild headaches... A brand new immersive Halloween black comedy developed by Pappy’s Fun Club’s Brendan Dodds & David Puckridge, starring The Penny Dreadfuls’ David Reed, Humphrey Ker and Thom Tuck. A unique promenade experience staged in the Pleasance Theatre’s new labyrinthine property next door to the theatre.

The Avernus Institute stands on the frontline in the war against disease. A war it is determined to win at any cost. Exciting, if ethically questionable, developments are being made in the area of genetic research, particularly research aimed at warding off disease, age and ultimately death.

Now for the first time Avernus opens its doors to the public. But the Institute’s latest experiments, compromised by corporate greed, seem destined to lead to horrific events of an almost apocalyptic nature.

Audience members explore this terrifying world of pharmaceutical corruption. They are toured around the facility, experiencing the events as they unfold and meeting the staff close-up, as The Institute unravels before their eyes.

We request that audience members convene in the Pleasance Bar 20 minutes before the start of the performance. This performance is site-specific, and the audience will be standing, walking and climbing stairs throughout. We regret that this performance is not accessible for wheelchair users. The performance is designed to be disorienting, and there will be spells of complete darkness. Advisory warning: 12+.
