Helping artists and companies at the Edinburgh fringe take their next practical steps as theatre makers
Edinburgh Associate Artists and Companies
The Edinburgh Associate scheme supports artists establishing themselves at the Edinburgh Fringe with a mixture of financing and in kind support to present a piece of work premiering at the fringe.
Applications for the Edinburgh Associates Programme are now closed and will reopen in 2022. The information below is for reference.
To be considered for the Edinburgh Associates Programme you need at least two years experience presenting at the fringe and the ambition to grow the scale, and maximise the reach of the work you are presenting.
We are looking for artists and/or companies looking to bring a piece of theatre or children’s work up to the Edinburgh Fringe as well as an aspiration to develop your practice and profile.
As an Edinburgh Associate Artist or Company, you will benefit from being part of one of Edinburgh’s most exciting theatre venues, renowned for its mission of providing a platform for the talent of the future. Edinburgh Associate Artists and Companies will also benefit from:
Up to £3,000 financing towards the development and presentation of your show at the Fringe.
A guaranteed slot within our Festival programme.
In kind support including (but not limited to); mentoring from the Pleasance; rehearsal, sharing & work space at our London theatre and additional marketing presence as part of our Pleasance Futures campaigns. A guaranteed London transfer run post-Fringe.
A programming option in our London transfer run post-Fringe.
Support to develop and deliver accessible performances (including the provision of captioned performances) as part of your run.
Previous Edinburgh Associates:
- Rhum & Clay, The War of the Worlds, 2019
- Jordan & Skinner, A Brief History of the Fragile Male Ego, 2019
- YesYesNoNo, The Accident Did Not Take Place, 2019
- David William Bryan, Fragility Of Man, 2019
Conditions and Application Criteria:
This programme is to support the costs of presenting new Children’s and Theatre work in Edinburgh. Transfers or revivals are not eligible. We define a premiere/new work as work that has not had more than 5 previous public performances. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please ask.
The guaranteed London transfer is to form part of the 2019 Caledonian Express Edinburgh Transfer Season. Dates and run length and deal to be negotiated in good faith, but it anticipated that this will fall between October and December 2020.
The Investment is towards the cost of the Edinburgh run, and not towards any development costs incurred in advance. We will consider including a reasonable amount for development or rehearsal directly before the Fringe run and we will also try to provide in kind rehearsal and development space in London in advance if appropriate as and when we can.
The Company or Artist applying must have 2 years experience of presenting work at the fringe.
The Company must raise substantial funds, in addition to the (up to) £3,000 financing provided by The Pleasance, to cover the full budget of the show. Pleasance will work with each company to ensure a fair and realistic budget has been drawn up and adhered to, which the Trust must sign off on, and reserve the right to stipulate where any finances go. Additional revenue may come through other funding organisations subject to agreement with the Pleasance.
The show’s main billing to include an "in association with The Pleasance" credit on all marketing materials for Edinburgh.
