Futures Festival: VIOLET - Work in Progress

Enxi Erskine Chang

Pleasance London

17:00, 20:45

(60 mins)

Violet is a part-time DJ, part-time TikTok activist and a full time hot mess. Join her valiant quest to secure the bag by capitalising on her token marginalisation and refusing to unpack even a single one of her toxic patterns of behaviour. There is a safety online that she isn’t afforded beyond the firewalls, but when her online life collides with her real life, she risks losing everything around her.

Violet is a humorous fictionalised narrative drama drawn from the personal experiences of a trans woman navigating IRL spaces.

First performed as an extract at Queer Upstairs at the Royal Court, this piece has been developed to this first full length work in progress performance with Papergang Theatre, supported by ACE, PuSh Festival Vancouver and Pleasance.

Enxi Erskine Chang is a British-Chinese writer, actor, spoken word poet and rapper. Her work has been aired at the Southbank Centre, the Royal Court and on Benjamin Zephaniah’s Life and Rhymes. She also releases music and DJs as Princess Xi Xi, performing at many iconic venues and nights including Colour Factory, Pussy Palace and Somerset House.

Directors: Tian Brown-Sampson and Kim Pearce
Dramaturg: Bri Leung
Produced by Clarissa Widya
