From £18.00

A dark comedy about an Irish male nanny who works for rich single mums in West London.

Manny is enjoying a Peter Pan-esque lifestyle of well-paid cash in hand work and settling for meaningless dates with women who harmonise happy birthday with their eyes closed. All just to disguise himself from the fact that he's letting life go by without following any real purpose.

He meets Molly, an actress disillusioned with life, as she sells beetroot brownies in Borough market (as opposed to playing Cleopatra on Broadway). Soon Manny becomes an unlikely role model for Michael, a 7 year old spoilt, seemingly irredeemable product of a loveless marriage.

All three face a potential future of unrequited dreams, and all three will have their lives changed by the events that occur.

“Sam McArdle offers a full-throttle performance but knows exactly when to slam on the brakes”
“A vivid and engaging work that needs to have a life beyond this King’s Head Theatre run”
“An entertaining and thought-provoking one-man show that deserves to be seen”

The Recs

“A new generation of actors is not sitting around waiting to get frustrated and are creating their own opportunities straight off the bat.”
“The writing is sure-footed, switching between the hide-and-seek game and the colourful backstory.”
“ McArdle as a performer hits strong emotional depths at times, a man not afraid to show his feelings.”

The Irish Independent

“Masculinity, vulnerability and meaning are neatly entwined in this world premiere”
“The Manny is a good example of new writing; catching a principle theme and performing it with ease. There is plenty to get your teeth into.”

Broadway World

“McArdle is funny, his comedic timing is excellent, including skillfully letting jokes sit with the audience”
“Moments of poignancy sit alongside moments of comedy with ease”

Everything Theatre

“An enjoyable and laugh-out-loud funny play with honest observations”

Rev Stan

“For a new play to have this much promise in such an early stage of development is rather exciting”
“Charmingly funny throughout… McArdle exhibits fiery passion”

Mickey jo Theatre

“Sam is a tall, muscled individual, who exudes self-confidence and works the audience well. The director of the piece, Melanie Fullbrook, keeps the pace relatively high and it rarely lags. While the topic of an over-sexed man realising the errors of his ways is well-travelled ground, this work is particularly well crafted and delivered with some panache.”

No More Workhorse

“Serves it up with sharp instinct and candid revelation, unsparing and unfiltered in his examination.”

Lost in Theatreland

"Captivating, enthralling & meaningful... with a dash of dark & brilliant banter"
