Common questions about coming to Edinburgh

We answer some of your frequent questions on applying to be part of the Pleasance's programme at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Do you rent rooms?

No, the Pleasance curates a rich programme of work from the applications it receives and run all of our deals on a split of the box office. We do not hire our spaces.

 

Do you accept applications from anyone?

Yes, we consider applications from anyone with a great idea. You can be a festival veteran, international touring company or a complete new comer. You do not have to have performed at the Pleasance before to be part of the programme.

 

When will I hear back regarding my application?

We review applications on a rolling basis on a first applied, first reviewed basis. Whilst there is no application deadline, our programming team are primarily working towards 2 key Fringe Registration dates; the Early Bird deadline of 15th March and final deadline of 12th April. As such, the majority of our programming comes together between late February and March, which is when you can expect to hear from us.

 

What if I have an offer from another venue, need an update or have a question?

Simply email us on application@pleasance.co.uk. It is common for shows to apply to multiple venues, who all work on different timelines. As such, if you have an offer from elsewhere, just let us know and we'll be happy to give you an update on your application.

 

What is the Pleasance's financial deal? 

Our standard deal is a 60/40% split of the Box Office in the visiting company's favour, set against a minimum guarantee which is based on the Pleasance's share of the Box Office at 40% capacity. The split is 55/45% for non-VAT registered companies. A full guide to the deal can be found on page 5 of the Performers Information Pack.

 

Are there any up-front costs? 

All shows pay their Fringe Registration fee (£393.60 max), Marketing Contra (£600 standard) and deposit at the point of accepting a slot. The deposit is based on your venue's size and duration of your run - a full guide to estimating your deposit can be found on page 13 of the Performers Information Pack.

 

Do you offer short-runs? 

Whilst the majority of productions in our programme run for the full duration of the festival, 2nd - 28th August, we can offer shorter runs than this. However, our ability to do so is based on programming two or more shows into a single slot in our programme (i.e. two shows looking for the same time in the same venue, but on different dates), so the process can be more complex. Nonetheless, our first consideration is always the work itself.

 

If successfully programmed, do I register with the Fringe Society?

No, the Pleasance will manage your registration with the Fringe Society and will provide you with a full overview of the process at the point you are programmed.
