“I’m not after much mate. D’you know what I mean? I just want to have a life like everyone else.”
A building site, in Essex, just down the road from where Jim and Martin met at school. They’ve never not had lunch together.
It’s been 5 years since a hole was left in their friendship group. Jim and Martin still see each other, everyday. The long-standing commitment is starting to feel a little less genuine and more like a matter of routine. But neither one wants to speak up.
BRICKS is a new play that confronts our past and asks ‘are our long-term friendships still right for us?’ An empathic but unflinching look at friendships and male mental health, from emerging playwright Joe McNamara, recent recipient of the 'One to Watch' award at the INK New Writing Festival and a House of Carney Production.
