Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth commands your presence for The London 50-Hour Improvathon!
Travel through time to Tudor England in the year fifteen twiggety-twoo (which is a real year) for a story of love, rivalry, ambition, and treason. Expect scheming courtiers, charming urchins, gossiping innkeepers, spies, seducers and sycophants - and that’s just the cast.
We can’t tell you much more than that because we won’t know until the show starts.
Now in its star-crossed 17th year, The London 50-Hour Improvathon is the ultimate ‘you had to be there’ event.
A 50-hour improvised comedy soap opera across one extraordinary weekend - catch just one standalone episode, or binge-watch the whole season like your favourite Netflix show.
Starting at 7pm on Friday and playing continuously in 2-hour episodes until 9pm on Sunday (yes, right through the nights!) with a live band and refreshments available throughout.
Featuring stars of Olivier Award-winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical and the legendary Comedy Store Players, alongside comedians, performers, up-and-comers and international guests throughout the weekend.
Traverse to the Pleasance this spring to (not) sleep, perchance to be very silly indeed.
Special Episodes
RELAXED EPISODE
Saturday 13th March, 11am
For anyone who would benefit from a more chilled-out atmosphere to enjoy the ruffs, cod pieces and courtly drama, we'll adjust the lights and sound, provide a chill-out area outside the auditorium, and the queen will have a relaxed attitude towards audience noise and movement.
D&D EPISODE
Saturday 13th March, 1pm
Dive into a live game of Dungeons & Dragons, and help decide which way the adventure goes, as the fate of our heroes is placed in the hands (and dice) of our resident world-class Dungeon Master (Mark Meer). It doesn’t make much sense in the context of Tudor England, but it’s so entertaining we don’t care.
Legendary improviser and professional D&D player Mark Meer has DM’d for the Baldur’s Gate 3 cast and played in the official D&D show The Black Dice Society. Mark has also provided voices for many fantasy video games including Baldur’s Gate and Dragon Age.
BSL EPISODE
Saturday 13th March, 3pm
This performance will be BSL-interpreted.
THE SCHOOL OF NIGHT EPISODE
Saturday 13th March, 5pm
Bardic bedlam with The School of Night, the famous improvised Shakespeare company created by Ken Campbell. The whole episode will be like a Shakespeare play, with everyone speaking in iambic pentameter and sonnets scattered like the darling buds of May.
FAMILY EPISODE
Sunday 14th March, 11am
Executions will be stayed and plague doctors will return indoors for one episode where storylines will become suitable for kids of all ages. Under-12 tickets just £7.50!
