When time and place lose meaning, only violence remains.
We meet Mart, imprisoned at an undisclosed location – a black site. The
stage is the interrogation room and we, the audience, are watching the
action unfold from behind one-way glass. Mart suspects there are people
watching, but Pers his impatient interrogator – vehemently denies any
audience exists.
We discover Mart is charged with conspiring to commit acts of terrorism, a charge Mart can’t understand, let alone deny. We see Pers chipping away at Mart, his identity, his sanity, attempting to break him. “We could be anywhere right now,” says interrogator Pers, “borders don’t apply to us. We have black sites in Cuba, Romania, the United States, the Indian Ocean. For people like you, land is something you need to feel whole, to feel fully human. For people like us, land is there to be used… and if you get in our way, well may your God help you.” Mart seemingly finds a way to remain calm while taking great pleasure in hilariously provoking his jailer in this fast-paced physical farce. Finally, Mart appears to succumb to Pers’s efforts until we find out a dark secret that changes Pers forever…
