'We know, mum. It’s beautiful, you and the utmost. But like, we’re shipwrecked - and Liz. We’re holding on with our toes.'
Set across two beaches, one in New Jersey and the other in Whitley Bay, Sea Sides explores unexpected encounters, fractured relationships and the connections that can shift lives.
In Unannounced, 16-year-old Harry makes a surprise visit to his aunt in Whitley Bay before returning at midnight to his mother, amusing, irritating and astonishing both of them until frozen lives begin to thaw.
In Life Guard, Emmy, bullied but talkative, rouses the sleeping giant Arthur, an ageing summer lifeguard on a beach in New Jersey. She taunts and teases him, and after storm and rescue, misunderstanding and re-understanding, they come to know themselves as ‘pals for life’.
Arthur: You said you’d bite my hand.
Emmy: Right through the bone and - wadda they call it? - gristle. Because why ruin the best thing?
Fresh from a North East tour and international premieres in India and China, Sea Sides marks the London premiere of the latest work from Misha Levkov (In the Net, Jermyn Street Theatre).
